Imperfect Balance

The Bodyguard scene is coming along nicely and I think it's content will be of every ones liking, a sub path and a not so sub path depending on how you handle and if you succeed on the stats challenges.

But how will this challenges be? here is a brief explanation.

A Strength designed challenge could be dealed with charisma or intelligence, but it will be harder to pull of.

It will take work but I think it will be for the best as it will make the story more immersive and less "rail-roaded".

there will be SOME rail-roading but I will try to make it nice and beautiful. So I will write 3 or 4 (more like 6 or 8 as it will have failure and success) outcomes to add re-playability

And that is it for now about how the stats test will be handled in the game.

This next part is kinda of long and has nothing to do with game content.

I have been wondering while there is games like Tales of the Drunken Cowboy with good story and fleshed out characters there are so much more games that are just a means that you deliver porn.

And I guess I could be linked to bad or lazy writing, but if it was just that why would I be writing about it and wasting you time?

My conundrum is: What if this lack of characterization is to create a necessity for a suspension of disbelief (suspension of disbelief is what makes you see a Marvel movie and don't go "urg! there is no god of thunder!" or "There is no such thing as pelvic sorcery") so that you can believe that is believable that a woman can become addicted to sex or a a strong willed character become a lowly sub.

And if you make a a character so believable that you can't just place her liking being raped?

What if you need blanks in a character so the player imagination can fill it with secret desires and weakness?

My case is Celeste Blake the protagonist of TotDC. A well writen game with good support characters and a nicely fleshed out main character, but not completely.

She is a strong willed mercenary all around bad ass with a predisposition for blowing things up, being very famous and poor.

And is known that she have a family and her father don't approve of her career and she believes that he sees her as a failure or disappointment.

My Celeste has a daddy issue and seeks inconsistently to appease a male figure, but that was never laid out, that part of Celeste story is mine, my experience is changed because of it and I can believe the kick ass mercenary Celeste Blake can choose to strip for money or accept submitting to the wills of a lover.

That is very powerfull, on the other hand the well exposed facts that

A: she is a bad ass: makes the act of submission that much stronger

B: she is a Mercenary: gives you context that she is not moraly uptight, she does shady jobs and shoots people for money.

What do you guys think? exposition or subtext in porn games?

My personal opinion is Star Lord's opinion: a bit of both.

  1. Hell yes to both. TOTDC was awesome! It was shocking to see such an in-depth game, but still maintain that balance of story and porn. I haven't really played any games like it until I started up Fight Club. But the original creator gave up and now the torch is passed down to you. haha

  3. Hi man! I just discovered this blog and it's wonderful to see that someone is continuing Magma's game! I wish you the best of luck!

I'd like to ask you an off topic question.
What's your policy with updates? Will you implement them in the public version of the game as soon as you finish them (like Magma used to do) or will you go for bigger patches?

    Keep up the good work!

    1. Glad to see a new anonymous face around here!

There is the game on the right with the 0.0.1 update, has 2 fights on the fight engine, some content, NO SAVE.

I made a pool on the fast vs content kind of update and in reached a stalemate of exact 50/50, so I'm juggling real world with game as best as i can so I can realease something substancial to you guys.

  5. I'd rather sacrifice freedom of choice in game for a better story over all if that's what you think is necessary for you to not get bogged down in endless side paths.

  7. Nice to hear the progress, not so nice to hear that you too have issues with Blogspot. Did you by-chance get my previous posts? I was trying to give some ideas on character background (and plot). I have a heck of a time getting this site to let me post, anonymous or otherwise

    1. Giving yourself a deadline can sometimes give you a good incentive to get something done though.

    2. It can also cause to to panic if you miss your deadline. Which at this point I'm fairly sure it's not monday anywhere in the world anymore.

Don't panic Deamon-bro! It's cool. I don't care if the post is just "I haven't done shit" just do it and let it go if you are turning this over in your head. Don't let it become bigger than it really is.

      If it's something else...IGNORE ME.
